Force Guided Relays International Inc.

FGRI offers and manufactures the largest selection of Force Guided safety relays in the industry.
We back our product offerings with some 37 years of niche market expertise and application experience.

Hengstler Safety Relay

German company Hengstler GmbH of Aldingen, began making Force Guided safety relays in the 1970s.

Kaco Relay

Kaco has some of the smallest Force Guided relays available. Their RBS series is the smallest with only 2 contact sets per relay.

FGR Custom Saftey Controls

FGRI has developed a variety of DIN Rail units that include Force Guided relays, and our manufacturing capabilities allow us to provide units to custom specifications.

Hengstler Safety Relay

German company Hengstler GmbH of Aldingen, began making Force Guided safety relays in the 1970s. Over the past fifty years they have gradually built a product line featuring thousands of relays, differentiated by their coil voltage, contact configuration and contact material.

FGR International has been a Hengstler distributor for 37 years and is now the exclusive Channel Partner and stocking distributor of Hengstler-Kaco relays for the North American Market. In expanding our website, we thought that specifications on the more commonly used Hengstler safety relays would be useful to our customers.

What is a Force Guided Relay?

Force guidance in a relay means that the contacts in a contact set must be mechanically linked together, therefore making it impossible for the NO (Normally Open) “Make” contacts and the NC (Normally Closed) “Break” contacts to be closed at the same time.

Force guided relays must maintain a 0.5mm minimum air gap between open contacts for the entire service life of the relay, even in the event of a failure or malfunction. FGRI has developed a variety of DIN Rail Mountable Safety Relay Interfaces that include force guided relays, and our manufacturing capabilities allow us to provide Safety Control Units to custom specifications.

With more than 37 years experience in the force guided safety relay field, FGRI is available for consultation on individual projects as well as custom applications.

Typical Applications

Force guided relays are one of the most effective means of terminating power to machines, mechanisms or other apparatus. Safety evaluating devices frequently use force guided relays to protect human life, the environment, systems, or similar critical processes.

Standard relays contain many parts which are frequently subject to dynamic, electrical or thermal wear. The force guided relay, however, is the one component in a safety circuit that enables that circuit to provide redundant and fail-safe operation.

For example, one force guided relay can be used to check the condition of one or more other force guided relays. When in the proper state, they will energize and turn off the first relay, providing the fail-safe or redundant feature necessary for safe operation of any machinery.
